LibMarks is built on the unix platform, using open-source software. The system can be hosted by your institution on your own server, or it can run on Springshare's servers as a hosted service.
Hosting OptionsIf your institution wants to install LibMarks on your own server, you will need a linux server with at least 2GB of memory. No special software is required to run LibMarks - it runs on an open-source platform of php/mysql/apache. Another option is to host LibMarks on Springshare servers. The pricing is based on the institution size and the expected deployment use. Please contact us for details. "Save to LibMarks" Browser ButtonThe browser button is compatible with all major browsers (IE/FireFox/Safari/Opera) on both Windows and Macintosh platforms. "Save to LibMarks" icon in other systemsIf a library subscribes to LibGuides, next to every web link in the system there is an icon, which enables users to save that resource to their LibMarks collection. We will provide you with the snippet of javascript code, which will enable your technical staff to easily embed this icon into your library catalog, courseware system, or any other web-based application at your institution. User AccountsWhile anyone can browse the links and tags in LibMarks, to save bookmarks, email links and use advanced features of the system, the user must have a LibMarks account. Account creation is a simple, one-minute process. While we encourage users to create their own accounts (this way they can also install the browser button during the account creation process), you can - at your option - integrate LibMarks with your library card/accounts system. This means that the users will use the same username/password for LibMarks as is their online library card account. If you chose this option, your institution must host the system. |
