LibGuides Facebook® Application

LibGuides is the first library application available within Facebook. A user simply needs to select LibGuides from the list of applications in order to access LibGuides content. LibGuides will recognize the user's school affiliation and present them with their "home" LibGuides system. Pretty cool, huh? We thought so too!

Distributing library content across the web, and "meeting" the customers wherever they are (a lot of them are on Facebook these days) is one of the hallmarks of library 2.0. Now your customers can access LibGuides content, chat online with reference librarians, and even search the library catalog from Facebook.

Why is this Important?

Facebook is one of the fastest growing social networks, with a projected user base of 50M by the end of 2007. Most college students already use Facebook, but increasingly alumni and the high school students are also signing on. Many customers of academic and public libraries are using Facebook on a regular basis.

In addition to providing a convenient way for your users to access the library content and services from Facebook, this serves as an excellent marketing tool for libraries. Making the content and services available in Facebook greatly improves the visibility of your library services.
